Candid Wedding Photography

What is candid wedding photography?

Candid wedding photography is a record of your wedding as it happened, without posing or stopping the ceremony. A candid photographer watches the room instead of directing it: your mother fixing your saree pleats, your friends losing it during the sangeet, the look between the two of you at the mandap. Fog Media has photographed weddings this way since 2009, for more than 1,000 couples across Bangalore, Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Goa and Hyderabad.

How We Work

Two photographers, two jobs

On most weddings we pair a candid photographer with a traditional photographer. The traditional photographer handles the formal pictures families expect: the couple at the mandap, group photos with both sides, the rituals in order. That frees the candid photographer to stay off to the side and photograph what nobody planned.

We work with available light wherever we can and keep flash to a minimum, so the pictures look the way the day felt. We do not ask you to redo a moment for the camera. If the garland exchange happens in a rush, that rush is the picture.

What candid coverage includes

Candid coverage runs from the getting-ready hour to the send-off, and for most families that means two or three events: haldi or mehendi, the wedding itself, and a reception. We photograph the small things between the big ones, because those are the pictures that get shared the most a year later: the grandmother watching from the doorway, the brother who cried, the plate of payasam nobody had time to eat.

Candid photography across our cities

We photograph candid weddings in Bangalore, Kannur, Calicut, Wayanad, Goa and Hyderabad. Our team is based in Kerala and Bangalore, so on a North Malabar or Bangalore wedding there are no travel costs to add. For other cities we quote travel separately and tell you the figure up front.

How we deliver

You get the raw files on the day of the event itself. Once you choose your photos, the album design reaches you in 10 days, and the finished album is delivered 15 days after you approve the design. Your wedding film follows separately. Every photo is edited by hand before it reaches the album, and we send a private online gallery so family abroad can see the wedding too.

Good to Know

Questions couples ask about candid photography

How is candid different from traditional wedding photography?

Traditional photography is posed and directed: the photographer arranges people and asks them to look at the camera. Candid photography is unposed. The photographer stays back and photographs what is happening. Most of our couples book both, because each does a job the other cannot.

Do you also take the posed family photos?

Yes. A traditional photographer on the team takes care of the family groups and ritual shots, so nothing the elders expect is missed while the candid photographer works.

Do you use flash?

As little as we can. Most Kerala weddings happen in the morning and we work with that light. In a dark reception hall we use small, bounced lights so faces look natural rather than lit.

How many photographers come to a wedding?

It depends on the events and the crowd. Four partners lead the studio and each wedding gets its own crew, with extra members added when events overlap or move between towns.

When do we get the photos?

You get the raw files on the day of the event itself. Once you choose your photos, the album design reaches you in 10 days, and the finished album is delivered 15 days after you approve the design. Your wedding film follows separately.

Which cities do you cover?

Bangalore, Kannur, Calicut, Wayanad, Goa and Hyderabad are where most of our weddings happen, and we travel anywhere in India for a destination wedding.
